How do I make money with a simulated race?
There are two main sources of revenue for your event when you add a simulated race option. The first is through simulated race entries, which allow athletes from anywhere in the world to participate in your event. The second is through in-video advertising. In-video ads provide you with more advertising space you can sell to your sponsors.
How does the partnership with Outside Interactive work?
Outside Interactive films and produces course videos at cost. We sync the course recording to our Virtual Runner software for an interactive experience at your pace and pair it to popular brand treadmills. We then partner with races in a revenue-sharing model for a small portion of the simulated race and in-video advertising sales. Our team can offer more details around this revenue-sharing model during our initial discussion with you.
What do I get for the price?
You get a high-quality video of your course shot from the participant’s point of view. You can use this video however you would like. The options are endless. Use it as a way to drive early registrations by offering the course video to only those registered by a certain date. Post challenges to compete for a race entry. Drive interaction on your social media using the shorter preview video you also get as part of your one-time production fee.
For the most interactive experience possible, we’ve built a network of treadmill manufacturersthat integrate seamlessly with the Virtual Runner app to adapt the treadmill automatically to match the runner’s pace and the course’s hill profiles through automatic incline control. While runners can use any treadmill they would like, compatible treadmills is one more way of making the experience completely immersive so athletes can train like never before or experience your event from anywhere in the world.
How can I raise more money for my race’s charity?
Outside Interactive and the Virtual Runner app are a great way to do even more fundraising for your race’s charity. Simulated races offer the opportunity for anyone to support your cause and get involved in your race.
Walkers can do the event in segments from home or their local gym, while still supporting your charity. Deployed military or those that care about your cause from overseas can also get involved with the event via the simulated race option.
How can my sponsors benefit?
We can give your sponsors a global reach to a very targeted audience, with special offers or even discounts upon finishing the simulated course for racing or training. We can add different special offers and sponsor brands throughout the video at key points on your course and change them as offers or sponsors change.
How long does it take to shoot and plan a simulated race?
We work with you to complete the simulated race planning and promotion process in seven simple steps.
Initial discussion
During an initial call, we’ll explain how the process works and answer your questions. We’ll also help you understand what to expect on race day when our production crew arrives and any important details we might need from you.
Partnership
Once we partner with you, we assign a field producer who works with your team to review all aspects of race day filming, obtains required permits, coordinates with security and race officials to create maximum crowd excitement.
Pricing
Our one-time complete production pricing caps at $1,000/mile AND DECREASES as your race distance increases. Shorter distances have a slightly higher cost per mile than longer distance races. During our initial discussion, we can provide an accurate cost estimate and further details on how revenue sharing works with your simulated race sales and in-video advertising.
Race day prep
We check in the day before the race to coordinate any last-minute details with race officials. To make sure everything goes as planned, our crew will check in on race day to ensure everything is all set, and we’ll begin filming! We don’t interfere with the race at all, so don’t worry. Your participants take precedent over our production team. We’ve worked with many race directors, so we know the importance of protecting the race day experience.
Course production
We create an exact simulation of the entire course, as well as a promotional trailer, highlighting key points on the course for promotional use. You’ll get a copy of your race course video and we’ll add a copy to our Virtual Runner application for tablet use. At this point, you can begin marketing your race in a whole new way by giving athletes a peek into what race day looks like.
Marketing
We provide a comprehensive marketing kit and up to three hours of free phone support from a marketing specialist to help you spread the word about your new simulated race option.
Ongoing support
As partners in your new race offering from anywhere in the world, we’re here to answer questions along the way to ensure your simulated event is a success!
